The collection consists mainly of correspondence between Daniel de Bruce Hack Sr. and family and friends. Business correspondences regard Hack's involvement in the Richmond Factory (Augusta, Georgia). Also included are letters in the 1840's from William Schley, Philip Schley, and Dr. Edward Eve of Augusta, Georgia; a few Civil War letters; and the reproduction of a letter from Daniel de Bruce Hack to his cousin William Hack, regarding Sherman's March. The collection contains receipts (for taxes, purchase of slaves, etc.); a reproduction of Hack's amnesty oath; and one unidentified photograph (possibly the Richmond Factory). The collection consists of two account books for the Athens Bobbin Mill and its predecessor the Athens Bobbin Works from November 1867 to December 1877 and April 1887 to December 1891. Volume one contains entries for customer or firm and includes the name, date, items purchased or ordered, and price. Additional entries pertain to wages paid employees and list name, number of days worked, and, in some cases, the amount paid. The first ledger also includes entries for letters received, answered, or sent and include the person's or firm's name, date, and address. Volume two includes entries recording employees, number of days worked, and taxes, charges for hauling services including name, amount, and size; and orders from customers or firms containing the name, date, items purchased or ordered, and price.

The Ed. L Jenkins Papers documents the political career of Congressman Ed Jenkins who represented Georgia's Ninth District (Northwest Georgia) from 1977 to 1992. Prior to being elected to the House of Representatives, Jenkins worked as a trial lawyer in Jasper, Georgia. During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Jenkins served on several committees including: the Ways and Means Committee where he was involved with the Trade Subcommittee, the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, the Budget Committee, the Steering and Policy Committee, and the House Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions during the Iran-Contra Hearings. Jenkins was an advocate of the textile industry in Georgia. He served on both the Textile and Congressional Rural Caucus to represent the needs of the industry and his constituents. Legislation of particular interest in this collection includes the Textile and Apparel Trade Enforcement Act of 1985, the Caribbean Basin Initiative, the Tax Reform Act of 1986, and Ronald Reagan's Balanced-Budget Amendment. Other topics of interest in this collection includes files on the Chattahoochee National Forest Preservation, lake and water resources, agriculture, textiles, domestic trade, taxation, and the Iran-Contra Hearings.

His autobiography outlines his boyhood and family background; service in the Seminole Indian Wars in 1818 in Florida; his involvement in various mercantile businesses in Elbert and Henry counties; his presidency in the Planters & Mechanics' Bank in Columbus; ownership in the Howard Manufacturing Company (textile) in Columbus; the Civil War and his sons', Daniel Watkins, Richard Eugene, and Willis Dunston service in the Confederate Army; and Sherman's march through Georgia. The collection also includes the Banks family bible containing births, deaths, and marriages, and two published works on the Banks and Winstanley families' genealogy.

Richard B. Russell Jr. served in public office for fifty years as a state legislator (1920-1931), governor of Georgia (1931-1932), and U.S. Senator (1933-1971). Best known for his opposition to civil rights legislation, Russell also focused on national defense, agriculture, soil and water conservation, and economic growth in Georgia. Russell's papers document the entirety of his career, with the vast majority of the materials focusing on his terms in the U.S. Senate. The records include constituent correspondence and other correspondence files, speeches and media files, legislative files, files on civil rights, and published materials.

From 1957 until 1971, the Administration and Press offices shared the same secretary and files. After 1971, the two offices were separated, as were their filing systems. Therefore some of the subseries are identical to those in the Press Office files series. This series consists of those activities that are not directly associated with "legislating" or providing constituent services but are nevertheless part of the routine of every officeholder. Also included are visitor cards, guest books, the Senator's appointment books, telephone records, and White House tour requests. Topics include the desegregation of the University of Mississippi in 1962; the civil action suit between Ivan Allen, Jr., Mayor of Atlanta, and Rev. Robert Hunter, leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1967; Vietnam; reaction to the Gulf of Tonkin and Mansfield Resolutions in 1967; the Pueblo incident; and the Whitten Amendment of 1969 which proposed the freedom of choice as an acceptable desegregation plan.

The Richard B. Russell, Jr. Collection comprehensively documents Russell's activities as a United States senator representing the state of Georgia. The Dictation Series is composed of letters and memoranda entirely or partially dictated by Senator Russell. The series is an integration of the copies for the Winder and Washington offices. Most of the dictated correspondence or memos contain Russell's views on upcoming legislation, political appointments, support of or opposition to bills and amendments as well as his positions on such issues as defense, the Vietnam war, agriculture issues, the investigation of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and civil rights and other national issues. Senator Russell rarely expressed his opinions regarding local and state politics in writing or in any public forum.
